About the program

Program Overview

This 8-week Life Skills program supports NDIS participants to strengthen everyday living skills, communication, emotional regulation, and community participation.

The program is practical and strengths-based, delivered in a calm, non-clinical setting using a trauma-informed and neuro-affirming approach.

Sessions are delivered by professionally qualified teachers and counsellors with experience in disability, mental health, adult education, and group facilitation.

This is a capacity-building program (not therapy) and is suitable for adults with psychosocial disability, autism, and mixed support needs.

 Duration: 8 weeks

  • Session length: 90 minutes per week Plus Coffee, Tea and Biscuits

  • Group size: Small supported groups

  • Delivery: In-person facilitated sessions

Activity Style

 All activities are:

    Practical and real-world focused
   Choice-based and non-pressured
   Adjusted to individual capacity

After-Session Practice Time

Each session is followed by a relaxed tea, coffee and biscuits time.

This time is a supported extension of the session, designed to help participants gently practise the skills they have just learned in a real-world setting.

Participants are encouraged to:

  • Initially practise conversation and social skills with their support workers

  • Gradually, and at their own pace, practise interacting with other participants

  • Use the strategies from the session in a calm, low-pressure environment

There is no expectation to participate. Observing, listening, or taking a break is always okay.

Participants who have completed the program are welcome to return for Tea Coffee and Biscuits Social

Their role is to:

  • Continue practising their own skills

  • Offer peer support through modelling and encouragement

  • Help create a welcoming, safe, and inclusive environment for current participants

This shared time supports confidence-building, community connection, and the practical application of life skills, while maintaining clear boundaries and a respectful, non-clinical setting.

Reassurance for Families & Support Coordinators

This time is facilitated, purposeful, and optional, with clear boundaries in place. It is designed to support confidence-building and skill generalisation, not unstructured socialising, and aligns with participant goals and NDIS Capacity Building supports.
